Wastewater Testing & Sampling

Wastewater Consultants provides wastewater sampling and testing services for property owners, businesses, developers, councils and organisations requiring reliable information about wastewater quality and system performance.

We undertake sample collection on site and arrange independent laboratory analysis through Hills Laboratories. This approach combines practical field experience with laboratory testing to provide relevant analytical data for wastewater assessments, environmental investigations and compliance-related matters.

Whether you are investigating a suspected discharge, assessing an onsite wastewater treatment system or gathering technical information for a regulatory or property-related matter, we can assist with a structured sampling and reporting process.

Wastewater Testing Services

We collect wastewater samples and coordinate laboratory testing for a range of key water-quality parameters.

Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD)

BOD testing measures the oxygen consumed by microorganisms as they break down biodegradable organic matter under defined test conditions. Results can help assess wastewater strength and treatment performance.

Total Suspended Solids (TSS)

TSS testing measures suspended particles in a wastewater sample. Results can assist in evaluating treatment performance and investigating discharges containing suspended material.

pH

pH testing measures the acidity or alkalinity of a sample. This information can help assess wastewater characteristics and identify conditions that may affect treatment processes or the receiving environment.

Nitrogen

Nitrogen analysis helps determine nutrient concentrations in wastewater and can support assessments of treatment performance and potential environmental impacts. The analytical method is selected according to the requirements of the investigation.

Phosphorus

Phosphorus analysis supports the assessment of nutrient concentrations and potential impacts on receiving environments, including freshwater systems susceptible to nutrient enrichment.

Faecal Coliforms

Faecal coliform testing measures indicator bacteria that can help identify potential faecal contamination. Results may assist with wastewater investigations, treatment performance assessments and environmental water-quality evaluations.

Our Sampling & Testing Process

1. Understand the requirements

We discuss the issue being investigated, the site conditions and the information required from the testing.

2. Collect samples on site

Wastewater Consultants undertakes sample collection, with sampling locations and procedures selected to suit the purpose of the investigation.

3. Independent laboratory analysis

Samples are submitted to Hills Laboratories for the agreed analytical testing.

4. Review and interpret the results

Laboratory results are assessed alongside relevant site observations, wastewater system information and the objectives of the investigation.

5. Provide technical advice and reporting

Where required, we can provide a technical report explaining the results, their significance, any limitations and recommended next steps.

Testing for Compliance, Investigations & Disputes

Wastewater testing can provide useful technical evidence when investigating suspected discharges, environmental concerns, wastewater system performance or property disputes.

Our services may assist:

  • Regional councils and territorial authorities investigating potential non-compliance.

  • Property owners concerned about wastewater discharge or system performance.

  • Lawyers and solicitors requiring supporting technical information.

  • Parties involved in neighbour, tenancy or property disputes.

  • Developers and consultants assessing wastewater-related requirements.

Where results are intended to support formal regulatory or legal proceedings, the sampling plan, documentation, sample handling and laboratory methods should be agreed with the intended evidential requirements in mind.

Laboratory results are interpreted in context and do not, by themselves, necessarily establish the source, timing or cause of a discharge.

Independent Analysis. Practical Expertise.

By combining on-site sampling with independent laboratory testing, Wastewater Consultants helps clients obtain relevant information to support informed technical decisions.

We focus on clear communication, appropriate sampling, objective interpretation and reporting that explains what the results indicate and where further investigation may be required.
